The Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic held, last Thursday (30), the 5th Webinar of the Space in Focus – Dialogues series. The event is an initiative of the Secretariat for Coordination and Aerospace Affairs, and included the participation of Minister Marcos Amaro at the opening.

With the theme "Brazilian PNT: Challenges and Opportunities for the Development of National Capabilities," the webinar addressed the strategic role of Positioning, Navigation, and Time (PNT) technologies, focusing on the prospects for developing national capabilities within the Brazilian Space Program and for national sovereignty.

Highlights included presentations by Mr. Osório Coelho Guimarães Neto, representative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), who presented the topic "National Capabilities in PNT: Strategic Context and Opportunities for Brazil," and by Mr. Thyrso Villela Neto, from the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), who discussed technological architectures and alternatives for Positioning, Navigation, and Time systems.

The presentations highlighted the relevance of the National Transit System (PNT) as critical infrastructure for strategic sectors such as defense, transport, telecommunications, precision agriculture, and financial systems, as well as pointing out the challenges associated with dependence on foreign systems and the opportunities for developing national capabilities.

The webinar brought together participants from various sectors, including representatives from the ministries that make up the Brazilian Space Program Development Committee (CDPEB), research institutions, government agencies, and others interested in the space sector. Its aim was to broaden public understanding of the role of the National Space Program (PNT) in national sovereignty, the resilience of critical infrastructure, and the country's technological development, as well as to highlight the inter-institutional coordination efforts led by the GSI/PR in strengthening the Brazilian Space Program.

The "Space in Focus – Dialogues" series is part of a set of initiatives aimed at promoting reflection on strategic issues in the space sector, with an emphasis on governance, institutional integration, and the development of national capabilities.
