CGEE participates in Navy ceremony dedicated to science and innovation.

The initiative celebrates science and innovation as pillars of national sovereignty. The date, officially commemorated on April 22nd, honors Admiral Álvaro Alberto da Mota e Silva, patron of Science, Technology & Innovation in the Navy and a central figure in the construction of Brazilian science policy.

The CEO of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), Anderson Gomes, participated, this Tuesday (28), in the ceremony of the Navy's Science, Technology and Innovation Day, held at the Naval Club of Brasília. The event brought together civil and military authorities, as well as representatives from academia, the productive sector, research institutions and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).

The ceremony was opened by the Director-General of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy (DGDNTM), Admiral Alexandre Rabello de Faria, who highlighted the strategic role of science and innovation in strengthening national capabilities.

Promoted by DGDNTM, the initiative celebrates science and innovation as pillars of national sovereignty. The date, officially commemorated on April 22nd, honors Admiral Álvaro Alberto da Mota e Silva, patron of Science, Technology & Innovation in the Navy and a central figure in the construction of Brazilian scientific policy.

Also regional vice-president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and president of the Pernambuco Academy of Sciences (APC), Anderson Gomes highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions, such as the Navy, to strengthen national capabilities.

“Science and innovation are structuring dimensions of sovereignty. Initiatives such as those conducted by the Navy demonstrate that continuous investment in science, technology, and innovation, combined with institutional coordination and long-term strategies, is fundamental for the country's development. In this context, CGEE contributes by supporting the formulation of evidence-based public policies, connecting knowledge, strategic planning, and decision-making,” he stated.

Since the mid-20th century, the Brazilian Navy has expanded its activities in the scientific and technological fields, with particular emphasis on projects in the nuclear, ocean, and defense areas. Currently, this effort is coordinated by DGDNTM, based at the University of São Paulo (USP) campus, and involves a broad network of partnerships with national and international institutions.
