Anderson Gomes presented recent research in photonics and discussed how scientific investigation can contribute to knowledge management, innovation, and the formulation of evidence-based public policies.
The president of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), Anderson Gomes, participated, this Wednesday (August 12), in the first National Meeting of the Brazilian Photonics Society (ENSBFoton 2026), held at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), in Campinas (SP).
In the plenary lecture “Between experiments and strategies: a journey between photonics and scientific management”, Anderson Gomes presented results of research carried out in 2025 and 2026, in collaboration with Brazilian and foreign institutions. The presentation opened the scientific program of the meeting.
Anderson, a physicist and professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), discussed new multidisciplinary applications of random lasers, fiber random lasers, nanomaterials, and femtosecond lasers. Among the works presented were research projects focused on biomedical applications and the development of innovative approaches for cancer treatment.
The lecture demonstrated how photonics has opened avenues for understanding and intervening in complex systems, from phenomena related to the coherence of light to the behavior of materials at the nanoscale. Building on this scientific trajectory, Anderson broadened the discussion to the fields of management and strategic intelligence.
In this context, the presentation highlighted CGEE's role in producing studies and providing input for evidence-based public policies, technological prospecting, and fostering connections between science, government, the productive sector, and society. The aim was to demonstrate how the investigative spirit that guides physics research can also contribute to knowledge management and the strengthening of scientific innovation in Brazil.
Held from August 12th to 14th, ENSBFoton 2026 brings together researchers, students, and representatives from the productive sector to discuss advances in optics and photonics. The program includes topics such as communications and optical fibers, lasers, optoelectronics, quantum optical technologies, sensing, image formation, biophotonics, and applications of light in agriculture.
In addition to scientific lectures, the event promotes mini-courses, technical exhibitions, oral and poster presentations, and a workshop dedicated to the photonics industry and entrepreneurship. The activities aim to bridge the gap between research developed in universities and scientific institutions and the possibilities of technological application and the generation of new businesses.
