The Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE) will be present at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held from November 11th to 22nd in Baku, Azerbaijan. The institution will participate in five official events, addressing topics such as biofuels, international technology transfer, decarbonization, and clean energy. Additionally, CGEE will have a booth at the conference where attendees can learn about some of the Center's key projects on sustainability and climate change.

On November 15th, CGEE’s official representative, Mayra Juruá, will take part in the panel “2025 NDCs and Enhanced International Cooperation: Reflecting on GST1 Signals and Mission 1.5.” This panel offers an opportunity to reflect on the ambition and implementation of the new nationally determined contributions (NDCs). The discussion will cover the importance of advancing the goals and signals of the first Global Stocktake (GST), including the need for capacity building and enhanced international cooperation for technology development and transfer.

The panel will also discuss how Mission 1.5 can strengthen international cooperation. This initiative is a campaign promoted by the COP Presidencies Troika—a partnership between the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, and Brazil—to boost international cooperation and encourage climate ambition to meet the global temperature target of 1.5ºC.

On the afternoon of the same day, CGEE will be present at the pavilion of the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), an organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of biofuels worldwide. This session, organized by Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), will address immediate solutions for decarbonizing the transport sector, such as the potential of bioethanol to supply mobility markets, aiming to reduce global emissions and combat climate change in light of the rising emissions in the energy and transport sectors.

The session will be moderated by Laís Garcia, Chief of the Renewable Energy Division at the MRE, and will include the participation of Ana Raquel Martins, representative of the Social, Environmental, and Climate Risk Department of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), and Bárbara Bressan, technical advisor at CGEE. This discussion will also take place on November 20th at Brazil’s Pavilion at COP.

CGEE concludes its official events on November 20th with the presentation “Technology Development and Transfer to Foster Decarbonization,” moderated by Mayra Juruá, with participation from technical advisor Emilly Silva. Supported by the MRE, the event will provide discussions on technology development and transfer (TDT) in the context of innovation and climate change cooperation, exploring how the Climate Convention's institutional frameworks foster the spread of environmentally sound technologies for ecological transition.

The Center’s representatives will also follow the official COP discussions related to CGEE’s work areas, such as sustainable cities, technology development and transfer, biofuels, energy, bioeconomy, and innovation.

Booth

CGEE will have a booth throughout the event, featuring an institutional video about CGEE, publications from the Positive Agenda for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and materials in English of other projects, such as the policy paper "International Scientific Cooperation and SDGs." The booth will be shared with the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy (NFVE), which will participate remotely. The CGEE delegation will also support NFVE’s visibility and distribute its publications.
