How has global scientific production in climate intelligence evolved in recent years within the BRICS context? Answers to this and other questions will be discussed during the Octi Seminar - Panorama of Scientific Production in Climate Intelligence in BRICS. The event will take place on April 16th, in the auditorium of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), as part of the Center's 25th anniversary celebrations.
The meeting will take place from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, in a hybrid format, and is an extension of the Octi 2024 Annual Bulletin - Climate Intelligence in the context of BRICS, published by the Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation (OCTI) in 2025.
The event's program, in addition to an opening panel with the participation of the head of the Special Advisory for International Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Carlos Matsumoto, will discuss the Potential for Collaboration in Science, Technology and Innovation within the BRICS bloc. Gustavo Concentino (Special Advisory for International Affairs - MCTI) will be the external guest for the discussion.
“We will present and discuss evidence on scientific production in climate intelligence within the BRICS framework, focusing on identifying gaps, opportunities, risks, and synergies that guide Brazil's strategic action in science, technology, and innovation,” emphasizes Adriana Badaró, project leader at OCTI.
On that occasion, the eighth edition of the OCTI Report will be launched. This initiative complements the analysis in Chapter 4 of the aforementioned Annual Bulletin. “The publication will be launched at a strategic moment of expansion of BRICS and intensification of the international debate on climate finance, energy transition, and technological sovereignty,” emphasizes Marcelo Paiva, technical advisor at OCTI.
BRICS constitutes a strategic space for multilateral cooperation aimed at promoting economic, scientific, and technological development among emerging countries. Currently composed of 11 nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Ethiopia—the group has expanded its influence on the global stage. Together, these economies represent more than 40% of the world's population and approximately 41% of global gross domestic product (GDP) in purchasing power parity, according to estimates by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which consolidates BRICS as one of the main centers of economic and scientific dynamism in the 21st century.
