What is the LGPD?
The General Data Protection Law (LGPD) establishes important and mandatory guidelines for the collection, processing, and storage of personal data. It was inspired by the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which came into effect in the European Union in 2018 and has had a significant impact on companies and consumers.
In Brazil, the LGPD( Law nº 13.709, of 8/14/2018 ) came into force on September 18, 2020, representing an important milestone for Brazil. As a result, Brazil joined the group of countries with specific legislation aimed at protecting the personal data of its citizens. In light of recent cases involving the misuse, commercialization, and leakage of personal data, the new rules ensure Brazilians’ right to privacy while also helping to prevent trade barriers with other countries.

Strengthen legal certainty and data subjects’ trust in the processing of personal data, while safeguarding freedom of enterprise, free competition, and the protection of commercial and consumer relations.
Promote competition and freedom of economic activity, including through data portability.
