Scientific production in Pernambuco gained new visibility with the launch of the e-book “Science for All: Voices of the Pernambuco Academy of Sciences”, published this Thursday (4), in Recife. The work, with an introduction signed by Anderson Gomes, president of the Pernambuco Academy of Sciences (APC) and director of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), brings together 74 texts by APC academics published over two years in the Jornal do Commercio (JC).

The result of an unprecedented partnership between APC and the Jornal do Commercio Communication System, the e-book reinforces the goal of bringing science closer to society. The articles cover different areas of knowledge, such as artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, history, health, environment, education, energy, vaccines, dentistry, philosophy, and astronomy, and seek to connect scientific topics to the daily lives of the population.

In the introduction, Anderson Gomes emphasizes the importance of understanding the scientific basis of events that impact collective life and highlights the educational, critical, and social role of science communication. For him, making knowledge accessible strengthens the relationship between science and society and contributes to a country more aware of the value of research.

“For society, understanding the scientific aspects that underlie various phenomena that affect us daily is extremely important and educational, in the broadest sense of the word. And that is the objective of the texts compiled in this e-book. This process, of understanding phenomena based on scientific principles, is part of a theme known as scientific literacy. And Brazil still has a long way to go in this regard. But the efforts of various actors are significant and continuous,” says Gomes.

The preface is written by Laurindo Ferreira, Director of Journalism for the Jornal do Commercio Communication System, who highlights JC's commitment to confronting denialism and promoting "moments for reflection," taking science beyond academia. Ferreira adds that the newspaper positions itself in opposition to misinformation, offering content that clarifies, stimulates reflection, and "saves lives."

The publication also highlights the role of institutions and initiatives aimed at popularizing knowledge, such as Espaço Ciência and the National Science and Technology Week, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
