The program marks the Center's 25th anniversary with discussions on innovation, sustainable development, and strengthening public policies in Brazil.
The Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE) will hold the Open Conference “CGEE 25 years: trajectories of Brazilian Science, Technology and Innovation in light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” on May 20th. The virtual meeting will bring together representatives from the scientific community, public managers, research institutions, specialists and civil society actors to reflect on the Center's historical contribution to public policies on science, technology and innovation (ST&I) in Brazil and to discuss perspectives for strengthening the 2030 Agenda in the country.
This initiative is part of the preparatory process for the 1st National Conference on Sustainable Development Goals and will focus on the debate about the strategic role of Science, Technology & Innovation (ST&I) in promoting sustainable development, reducing inequalities, and strengthening institutions.
The program will be structured around three moments in the institutional trajectory of CGEE. The first block will address the period of formation and consolidation of the Center, from 2001 to 2010, highlighting its role in strengthening state capacity, formulating national policies, and producing evidence for public policies. The second moment will discuss the expansion and territorialization of the Center's actions, from 2011 to 2019, focusing on regional development, inclusion, and reduction of inequalities. The third block, in turn, will discuss CGEE's contemporary agenda, bringing together themes such as bioeconomy, climate change, strategic planning in science, technology, and innovation, territorial development, and human capacity building. The conference will also include a participatory dynamic for systematizing contributions and developing proposals aligned with the axes of the National SDG Conference. Among the priority themes are technological innovation, environmental sustainability, regional development, bioeconomy, evidence-based public policies, and institutional cooperation.
As a result, recommendations aimed at improving science, technology, and innovation policies and strengthening the strategic role of CGEE in the face of contemporary challenges to sustainable development will be consolidated. The event will also nominate representatives for the national stage of the 1st National Conference on the SDGs.
“As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, CGEE reflects on its institutional trajectory and reaffirms its commitment to producing strategic intelligence, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and using science, technology, and innovation as tools for Brazil's sustainable development,” says the Center's CEO, Anderson Gomes.
