Another Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) is approaching and the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE) will play a key role in the global scenario of sustainable development. This year's edition, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the institution will participate in five official events covering topics such as clean energy, international technology transfer, decarbonization, urban adaptation, and ecological transition. Additionally, CGEE will have a booth where attendees can learn about some of its leading projects focused on sustainability.

As an accredited organization as an observer at these conventions, CGEE has a long-standing record of contributing to sustainability and climate change discussions on both national and global fronts. With participation and activity records at 13 conferences, here are some highlights:

  • In Copenhagen, Denmark, the books "Brazil and Climate change: Vulnerability, Impacts and Adaptation" and "Sugarcane-based bioethanol - Energy for Sustainable Development" were released. In Durban, South Africa, the book "REDD in Brazil: an Amazonian approach" was presented. In Lima, Peru, and Paris, France, the Center promoted measures to combat climate change and the adoption of voluntary commitments by the Parties.
  • In Marrakesh, Morocco, CGEE contributed to the launch of the Biofuture Platform, an initiative, joined by 20 countries, and subsequently resulted in a report released at the Polish COP. The document highlights the importance of biofuels and bioproducts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In Bonn, Germany, the Center organized, in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), the official Brazilian event. The same happened in Glasgow, Scotland, but this time, together with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
  • In Madrid, Spain, CGEE launched the publication “South-South and Triangular Cooperation on the Bioeconomy in Light of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” in collaboration with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and organized with the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (Inbar).
  • In Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, CGEE organized, in partnership with French institutions, the side event “Green Hydrogen: How to Reconcile North/South Stakes in the Development of the Future Market.”
  • And last year, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Center, in partnership with Inbar, held the side event “Bioeconomy Value Chain Development for Climate Change Mitigation & Resilience: Bamboo & Amazon Products.”
